Animism: the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.
(Animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork, and perhaps even words and ideas—as animated and alive.)
Animism has been around for a very long time all around the world. In fact, it can be argued that all the world's great religions have Animist underpinnings. This type of spiritual practice restores your spiritual authority and is centered around engaging with compassionate and benevolent spirits to live a life of connection, harmony and robust health. Through journeying to these awesome powers we can learn better ways of living and loving. Ultimately, Animist practice allows us to deepen our understanding of what it means to be vibrantly alive in a world that is vibrantly alive.
Journeying is the core tool of Animist practice. It's surprisingly easy and allows you to literally travel to these spirit worlds and connect with these beings. From day one we will cover what a Spirit Journey is and best practices for how to take one. Throughout the five weeks, you will take several journeys and leave this course feeling confident in your ability to engage with this ancient discipline.
This five week course is a completely safe, playful and life-changing taste of Animist practice. We look forward to not just teaching you how to journey and engage with the sprit world, we look forward to learning from you as you begin to bring back teaching and healing from your own set of spiritual helpers. There will be many different types of experiences and you will be able to find those that resonate most profoundly for yourself.
Exploring a variety of different animist practices from trance journeys to embodiment states, our goal is to empower you to feel comfortable exploring the invisible world on your own terms. We are not a puppet of the spirits and they are not puppets for us, rather, right relationship with compassionate helping spirits is a collaboration.
Spirit Worlds is rooted in respectfully engaging with the invisible world. This course itself was arrived at by journeying for its content. As a result, some weeks are deliberately vague as the specific material is only intended to be shared once we are in the container of the class. Course Curriculum
Week One: Embracing Earth
Week one of Spirit Worlds is about building strong foundations of practice. Because so much of this work depends on our ability to journey, we will spend this first class getting very clear about how it is done.
We will take two journeys to the Lower World to connect with an Animal Power and possibly also a place of power. In addition to the journey work we will also speak about spiritual power and explore how to generate it so that we are power filled when engaging in this type of work.
Week Two: Dancing with Fire
Week two of Spirit Worlds is about journeying for others. Students will be partnered up and will journey for each other to retrieve a non-ordinary reality “power object”. A second journey will then be taken as students journey to learn more about this object they have received.
Animist practice isn’t just about journeying, however, and so this week we will also explore how to dance different energies and bring power into our bodies through movement and song.
Week Three: Watering our Souls
Week three of Spirit Worlds has students journeying to the Upper World to receive a specific healing that they need. Following this journey, students will be instructed on how to journey for another student to facilitate a unique healing for them as well. This unique journey will incorporate the healing power of music and song to bring substantial wellbeing for the recipient.
Week Four: Actualizing Air
Week four of Spirit Worlds is about using our gifts for each other and our world. We will come together for a traditional Journey Circle. This is a practice where we will determine one question as a group that we want an answer to, then we will all journey on the same question. Afterwards, through sharing our individual journeys, we will help interpret our experiences to receive a satisfying answer to our collective query. This is a very powerful week where we will feel the power we have built up as a group and the gifts that working together with spiritual support can bring.
Week Five: Spirit Moves
Our final week of Spirit Worlds will center around students taking a longer journey to a teacher that will help students continue their spiritual studies after this course concludes. This week will also include a formal closing ritual and potentially other surprise practices if time allows.
